Typography

To experience the full glory of obsession with Detail, you need to have Georgia (for body text) and Hoefler Text (for display text) installed on your computer. Practically every computer in the world has Georgia on it, but only Mac users are likely to have Hoefler Text.

Hoefler Text comes pre-installed on OS X, but if you use Windows, you will most likely see all the display type on this site set in the venerable Garamond (if you have MS Office on your computer) or in the ubiquitous Times New Roman (if you don’t).

If the first text sample below duplicates one or both of the following samples (note the k‘s, w‘s, and z‘s), chances are you’re viewing them on a PC:

So for all you PC users Windows has, yet again, managed to make your world a little less beautiful. (Switch now!) If you have little enough sense to use a PC rather than a Mac, you probably don’t deserve a typeface as fine as Hoefler Text anyway.

The fleurons in my favicon, masthead, and between posts are all from the Hoefler Text Oranaments.
